What are the fastest and slowest surfaces on the ATP tour?
Each tournament's relative ace rate is calculated by estimating how many aces
each player would hit in each match on a neutral surface, then comparing that number
to the actual number of aces hit. The first four columns show the resulting ratio for
the years 2009-2012; the last two columns show 3/2/1 weighted averages of the years 2009-11
and 2010-12 for each tournament. The most recent available weighted average is the
most accurate reflection of the surface speed, and the best forecast of surface
characteristics for next year's event.
